The St. Louis Blues hired 13-year NHL veteran Marc Savard as an assistant coach, the team announced Wednesday.

"I was fortunate to play with Marc during my career and I'm very familiar with his passion and acumen for the game," head coach Craig Berube said in a statement. "He was a tremendous player and possesses an elite offensive mind. His addition to our staff will be a great benefit to our players and the organization."

Savard, 42, officially retired in 2018 but hadn't suited up in an NHL game since 2011 due to concussion issues.

He was drafted in the fourth round by the New York Rangers in 1995 and also played for the Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers, and Boston Bruins.

One of the game's best playmakers while in his prime, Savard finished his career with 706 points in 807 contests.
