Sterling Shepard week-to-week with fractured thumb
New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard fractured his thumb during Thursday's practice and will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, the team announced.
Shepard left practice early and immediately received X-rays on his thumb.
The Giants didn't disclose whether the 26-year-old's status for Week 1 is in jeopardy, though NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports there's hope he'll be ready for the start of the season. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network projects Shepard as "questionable" for the opener.
Shepard is expected to be a focal point in New York's passing attack in 2019 after the team dealt Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. He set career highs last season with 66 catches and 872 receiving yards, adding four touchdowns.
New York recently signed The fourth-year wideout to a four-year, $41-million contract extension.
