Giants lose Coleman to torn ACL, reportedly eyeing Benjamin

New York Giants wide receiver Corey Coleman suffered a torn ACL during practice Thursday, the team announced.

Such injuries typically sideline players for a full season.

Coleman is the second Giants wideout to go on the shelf early in training camp, as Sterling Shepard fractured his finger in the same practice.

Following the injuries, New York is already looking to add depth at the position.

Former Carolina Panthers receiver Kelvin Benjamin - who was drafted by Giants general manager Dave Gettleman - is among a group of wideouts the team plans on inviting for a free-agent workout Saturday, a source told Art Stapleton of USA Today Sports.

Coleman served as the Giants' primary kickoff returner last season, and also caught five passes for 71 yards. He was set to compete for a more prominent role this year behind Shepard and Golden Tate.

The 25-year-old was a first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2016, but never quite found his footing out wide. He spent time with the Browns, Buffalo Bills, and New England Patriots before coming to the Giants.
