Elliott officially a 'non-report' for training camp

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones listed star running back Ezekiel Elliott as a "non-report" for the first day of training camp on Friday.

Elliott, who is reportedly planning a holdout to force a contract extension, made waves by missing the Cowboys' flight to Southern California on Thursday.

The tailback missed Friday's physical and conditioning run, sources told NFL Network's Jane Slater. Dallas' first practice is on Saturday.

Elliott is seeking a deal that exceeds Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley's four-year, $57-million contract, sources told Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports.

The Pro Bowler has two years remaining on his rookie contract with salaries of $3.85 million and $9.1 million (his fifth-year option), respectively, per Spotrac. He will be subject to a $40,000 fine for each day he misses training camp.

The 2016 No. 4 overall pick has led the league in rushing in two of his three seasons. In 2017, he ran for 983 yards after being suspended for the first six games of the campaign for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

The Cowboys have insisted that they see Elliott as a long-term cornerstone of the franchise, but the team has a host of other deals to hand out.

Quarterback Dak Prescott, receiver Amari Cooper, and cornerback Byron Jones are entering contract years, and all are expected to command deals around the top of their respective markets.
