The Dallas Cowboys appear intent on bringing an end to Ezekiel Elliott's holdout.

The Cowboys have extended an offer to their All-Pro running back, but have yet to receive a counteroffer from his management, NFL Network's Jane Slater reports.

The Cowboys are looking to avoid a situation like Emmitt Smith's holdout in 1993. Smith's standoff lasted into the regular season, and after the defending Super Bowl champions got off to an 0-2 start, Dallas signed him to an extension that made him the highest-paid running back in the league.

Elliott has not been present at Cowboys camp, leading owner Jerry Jones to acknowledge on Friday that his star rusher is "late" and officially a "non-report."
