Michael Thomas became the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history on Wednesday.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees, perhaps the primary beneficiary of Thomas' commitment to New Orleans, shared with some young fans his excitement about the lucrative deal.

"If your question is, 'Do I want Michael Thomas on my team to be able to throw the ball to him' ... Yes," Brees said to a group of high school students in Slidell, La.

The star wideout agreed to a five-year, $100-million contract extension through the 2024 campaign. His $61 million in guarantees also represents the most ever for a non-quarterback offensive player.

"Obviously it was a lot of money, prices keep going up, but that's what the market demanded. That's a separate conversation," Brees said to laughs from the crowd.

Brees and Thomas have developed into one of the top offensive duos in the NFL. The former had a 124.5 passer rating when throwing to his top target, while the latter led the league with 125 catches.
