Bills' McCoy: 'I'm the guy' at RB, 'that's what I've been told'
The Buffalo Bills feature a crowded backfield entering the 2019 season, but LeSean McCoy believes he's still the clear-cut No. 1 rusher.
"I'm the guy. I feel like that. That's what I've been told," McCoy said, according to Chris Brown of the team's website. "That's my every day approach. We're all a team and trying to help each other out to win games, compete against each other, and make each other better. Me and Frank (Gore) have been competing for years. We train in the offseason and we're always trying to beat each other. I'm excited for the challenge."
The veteran tailback figures to open the campaign atop Buffalo's depth chart, but the team added competition to a rushing attack that ranked second to last in 2018. Gore and T.J. Yeldon were added via free agency, while third-round pick Devin Singletary is expected to see his fair share of snaps.
McCoy also brushed off ongoing trade rumors and said he's using them as motivation.
"For the last two years, people have been saying that. If that was the case, I'd have been gone," McCoy said. "Two teams were trying to get me, so if I was gone, they would've gotten something for me. It's common sense.
"I'm challenging myself. I come to camp and this team, I look to be the best player every snap," he continued. "I'm motivated."
McCoy rushed for 637 yards last season, the lowest total since his rookie year, while adding four touchdowns on the ground.
