Brady 'hated' giving up preferred helmet
Tom Brady can relate to Antonio Brown.
The New England Patriots quarterback and Oakland Raiders receiver are but two of several players being forced to switch helmets this season after the NFL prohibited the use of their preferred headgear.
Brown has reportedly threatened to retire over the rule banning his favorite model, and Brady is also struggling with the change.
"I've been experimenting with a couple different ones, and I don't really love the one that I'm in, but I don't really have much of a choice," Brady said Monday on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show."
Brady said he'd been wearing the same helmet since at least 2004. But a grandfather clause that allowed him to play in the Riddell VSR-4 helmet model last season has now expired.
"You get used to the same helmet for a long period of time. My last helmet, I wore it the last four Super Bowls, so it was a pretty great helmet for me. I hated to put it on the shelf," he said. "It's kind of what I'm dealing with."
