The New York Giants are reportedly set to trade linebacker B.J. Goodson to the Green Bay Packers after initially deciding to waive the veteran, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The compensation for Goodson has yet to be reported.

Goodson, a fourth-round pick in 2016, started 13 games for New York last season and racked up 60 total tackles and two interceptions.

However, Goodson spent most of the summer working with the backup defense behind starters Alec Ogletree and Tae Davis. The Giants added to their linebacker depth in the draft, taking Ryan Connelly in the fifth round.

Free-agent linebacker David Mayo, who was drafted by Giants general manager David Gettleman when the executive was with the Carolina Panthers, took Goodson's spot on the roster.

Meanwhile, Goodson will bolster the Packers' injury-hit linebacker group. Blake Martinez is locked into one of the starting jobs, but his presumed running mate, Oren Burks, suffered a torn pectoral muscle and could be headed for injured reserve.

The inexperienced duo of James Crawford and Ty Summers rounds out Green Bay's depth.
