Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice is set to miss time after undergoing an MRI on his knee, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Guice tore his ACL last season, but this injury is to the other knee. The Redskins reportedly hope Guice won't need surgery. The sophomore hurt the same knee in college, added Rapoport.

Guice was ineffective during Washington's season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, recording just 18 yards on 10 carries.

An infection that reportedly required him to undergo three additional procedures delayed Guice's rehabilitation from the season-ending injury last year.

With the 2018 second-round pick sidelined, the Redskins will likely turn back to Adrian Peterson. The 34-year-old was a healthy inactive against the Eagles for the first time in his likely Hall of Fame career. Some Redskins veterans were angry about the team not dressing Peterson, a source told ESPN's John Keim.

Peterson took over for Guice last season, racking up 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns.
