The Miami Dolphins will look to turn a boatload of cap space and three first-round picks in the upcoming draft into a competitive roster by 2020.

"We'll be very aggressive," general manager Chris Grier told reporters Tuesday. "We're not gonna sit here on a bunch of money or anything. The plan is to build a winner here."

The Dolphins are off to an 0-2 start in 2019 - having been outscored 102-10 - while a number of veteran players have reportedly been crafting exit strategies from the fish tank since the beginning of the season.

The futility was to be expected after Grier and Co. spent the summer shredding the roster to commence a full-scale rebuild. The latest marquee player to depart South Beach was defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a deal that netted Miami its third first-round selection in the 2020 draft.

"No one likes losing, and we've talked about building a team that's gonna win and compete for championships for a long time instead of being this (contender) one year and then you fall back for two, three," Grier said.

Miami is projected to have approximately $120 million in cap space this offseason. The Dolphins will also have two draft picks in the second round, giving them an opportunity to accelerate their rebuild.

"We've positioned ourselves to where we think the organization will be in a good place here shortly," Grier added. "Like I said, we'll be aggressive in free agency. Again, we're not gonna sit back and not do anything. We're gonna be very proactive and try to get this turned quickly."
