Encrypted file system - out of space?

On my recently installed CentOS 7 machine with the Mate desktop I have a separate /home partition of 4 GB. There is one user, me. I do NOT store anything in my home directory other than .wine, configuration files and some .cache stuff which is too much trouble to point elsewhere. I typically use about 250 MB. Yesterday I received a warning that /home was out of space.

df and Disk Usage Analyzer both indicated that /home was filled up. Disk Usage Analyzer showed that /home/ken was using 257 MB. I examined /home for hidden files. There were none. I rebooted the machine and found that /home now had plenty of space as expected.

The difference in this install and prior ones is that all of my file systems, except /boot, are encrypted. Could it be that the encrypted file system is not releasing space when a transitory file is created and then deleted? /home is ext4 which should be OK. I have used encrypted ext4 file systems on my servers for years and never had a similar issue.

Any ideas,

TIA,
