Report: Gordon to end holdout Thursday, won't play in Week 4

Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is ending his holdout and intends to report to the team Thursday, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Gordon won't suit up for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, Rapoport adds.

The two-time Pro Bowler was apparently targeting a return between Weeks 6-8, but it was reported Wednesday he was considering ending his holdout earlier than initially planned.

The Chargers granted Gordon permission to seek a trade after he said he wanted either a satisfactory contract extension or a move away from Los Angeles.

Prior to the beginning of the regular season, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said the team was cutting off negotiations with Gordon until after the completion of the campaign.

Gordon, 26, has one year left on his current contract and needs to play enough games in 2019 to earn an accrued season toward free agency.

The 1-2 Chargers have relied on the duo of Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson in Gordon's absence. The pair has combined for 302 rushing yards and two touchdowns through three weeks, with Ekeler also ranking second on the team with 208 receiving yards.

A first-round pick of the Chargers in 2015, Gordon rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns across 12 contests last season.
