Epson printer drivers on 64 bit Linux
by HalseyTaylor from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4SX7E)
Hi, apologies in advance if this is covered somewhere else. I've not been able to find an answer to the question. Please post a link and berate me publicly if this is covered elsewhere.
-> How functional are the newer Epson printers on 64 bit linux?
We need to replace an old HP and want to use an Epson ink printer - no scanner, fax, etc. All it needs to do is print nice b&w. It's replacing a 20 year old HP laser which was perfect for us.
The Epson driver contains .ppd files. I know were to stick those.
There's also a 32 bit lib file which I presume (let me know if this is wrong) won't work on my 64 bit distribution (multilib is not an option).
If the thing prints fine with the .ppd, great. But, if it needs the 32 bit lib, then... not great.
And before HPLIP supporters tell me how great HP is, thanks but no thanks.
I'm not inclined to deal with the evil HP ink cartel.
Thanks,
Halsey
