The Atlanta Falcons have ruled out quarterback Matt Ryan from Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks due to an ankle injury, the Falcons announced, according to Will McFadden of the team's official site.

With Ryan sidelined, Matt Schaub will get the start. It will be the 38-year-old's first start since he played for the Baltimore Ravens in 2015.

The Falcons moved quarterback Danny Etling to the active roster to back up Schaub.

Ryan's injury ends a streak of 154 consecutive starts for the 2016 NFL MVP.

The 1-6 Falcons have been one of the biggest disappointments in the league this season. However, Ryan has arguably rarely been the issue for Atlanta, which has struggled mightily on defense.

The quarterback is second in the league in passing yards (2,170), third in completion percentage (70.9%), and is tied for the most passing touchdowns (15) with Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes.
