Oct. 28, 1956: One-way street system begins in Hamilton

On Sunday, Oct. 28, 1956, 27 miles (43 km) of two-way streets were converted to one way. The Downtown Business Association said, "One-way streets are highly beneficial to any business interest." An unofficial Spectator poll of customers in downtown stores on Jan. 26, 1957, showed that they were 3-1 in favour of one-way streets.
