The Dallas Cowboys have been in touch with the New York Jets regarding a trade for safety Jamal Adams, who's indicated he's open to a move, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

New York is seeking more than a first-round pick for Adams after the Miami Dolphins landed a first-rounder for second-year safety Minkah Fitzpatrick earlier this season, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.

Dallas has been looking to upgrade the safety position, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones acknowledged to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. But the team isn't the only playoff contender contacting the Jets about Adams, according to FOX's Peter Schrager.

The sixth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, Adams earned a Pro Bowl nod last year after notching 115 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one interception in his second NFL season.

Nicknamed "The President," Adams has 31 tackles and one interception across seven games this year. He's appeared frustrated at times during the Jets' slow start to the campaign.

"We're 1-6, man," Adams said Sunday after the Jets lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. "I can't even count how many times. ... It's been three years, man. Frustrating. I just want to win. ... I don't come from losing."

The 24-year-old is inching closer to the end of his rookie contract and figures to be in the market for a big-money extension at some point over the next two years.
