Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding comes to PC in 2020
If you want to play Hideo Kojima's upcoming Death Stranding right away, or if you like to play your games on a console, the PlayStation 4 is the only place to do it. If you can hold on for just a minute, though, Kojima-san has some good news. Death Stranding is officially heading to PC in "early summer 2020."
While Sony has been marketing Death Stranding as PlayStation 4 title for years, there hare been hints for a while that it would come to PC as well. Death Stranding isn't listed as an exclusive on Sony's official site, and Kojima called the game a "collaboration with PlayStation" when he revealed it. As Ars Technica notes, Kojima Productions even said at one point that its first game was "planned to become available on PC (after PS4)."
Death Stranding mysteries persistWe've wondered at what sort of game Death Stranding is since its reveal a few years back. The trailers released since then have done little to quell our curiosity. It's only in recent weeks and months that we've started to see the game in action. Videos have shown off a focus on traversal, with protagonist Sam Porter Bridges, a person who acts as a porter and who builds bridges (it's a very silly name).
Death Strandingis built on the Decima engine that Guerrilla Games built for PlayStation 4-exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn, which marks the first time that engine will see a game released on PC. That's a rarity in a world where most games are built on just a few engines like Unreal Engine 4 and Unity.
There are still some important details to fill in here. Death Stranding hits PC early next summer, which puts it somewhere in June or July. Death Stranding's PC publisher, 505 Games, hasn't said yet which digital storefronts we can expect to see the game for sale. With this being Decima's first appearance on PC, it should at least make for some very interesting benchmarking opportunities next summer.
