Report: Redskins' Williams ends holdout but doesn't plan to play

With Tuesday's NFL trade deadline in the rearview mirror, Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams ended his holdout and returned to the team, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

But despite deciding to report, Williams doesn't intend to play this season, a source told JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.

By ending his holdout, Williams prevents his contract from tolling, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He can now earn $5.82 million in remaining salary.

However, it's unclear how Williams' apparent plan to not play will affect his contract status.

The 31-year-old is under contract for one more year beyond this season; he's set to earn $12.5 million in 2020.

After insisting for months that they wouldn't trade the absent seven-time Pro Bowler, the Redskins seemingly reversed course earlier this week and signaled they were open to dealing him.

But Washington failed to receive a satisfactory offer before the 4 p.m. ET deadline after reportedly demanding a first-round draft pick or a package that included a playmaker in any trade for Williams.

The disgruntled left tackle held out all season due to discontent with how the team's medical staff handled a growth on his head in the offseason. Williams required several procedures for the issue.
