rsync parameters for copying a complete home directory
by Pedroski from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4TJ56)
I asked about cloning my hd here recently, but I decided to do a fresh install of Ubuntu on my new laptop.
Now I would like to use rsync to copy the entire contents of /home/pedro/ on my old laptop to the same directory /home/pedro/ on the hd of the new computer.
Unless I can do this via my router somehow, (I don't know how to do that), I would just remove the new hd, put it in an external drive, then copy to it.
My user name and password are the same on both laptops.
I think

should do this. From man rsync, I read:
Quote:
I don't think I really need -z in my case. I have about 42.6GB (just under 120 000 files) in my home directory
Do I need any other parameters to do a good job?
Would it be difficult to do this via my router, without removing the hd from the new laptop?
