Redskins' Sprinkle fined more than 2 game checks' worth of salary
Washington Redskins tight end Jeremy Sprinkle could pay a heavy price for two recent hits that the NFL deemed unnecessary roughness.
Sprinkle, who has a base salary of $645,000 this season, was fined $84,231 for the two shots he delivered in last Thursday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN's John Keim.
The tight end earns $37,941 a week, so he's set to lose more than two game checks' worth of salary.
Sprinkle was docked $56,156 for a hit to the head of Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes. The fine is more than $21,000 higher than the next largest for a play in 2019, Keim adds.
The 25-year-old can appeal the punishment as the NFL allows players to do so if the fine "exceeds 25% of one week of a player's salary for a first offense, and 50% of one week of a player's salary for a second offense."
