Report: Texans to continue operating without GM in 2020

The Houston Texans have operated without a general manager in 2019 and plan to continue with that structure in 2020, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Head coach Bill O'Brien has been handling GM duties, including trade negotiations, and has the final say on roster decisions.

After firing general manager Brian Gaine during the offseason, Houston began pursuing New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio. The club was expected to continue that courtship after the 2019 season but that's no longer in the plans, according to Rapoport.

The Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans in June but dropped them after Texans owner Cal McNair agreed to end the pursuit of Caserio.

Houston's been busy with transactions despite lacking an official GM. The Texans have traded defensive end Jadeveon Clowney while acquiring running backs Duke Johnson and Carlos Hyde, left tackle Laremy Tunsil, receiver Kenny Stills, and cornerback Gareon Conley.
