Wifi failed to start on Toshiba Portege R700 after upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04

I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 (64bit) (kernel 4.15.0.47-generic) on a Toshiba Portege R700 and wi-fi failed to start.
Booting kernel alternative 4.15.0.20-generic using grove menu solved the wi-fi problem but gcc cannot be installed (broken...)
I appreciate to receive any suggestion.
