Black screen blinking cursor.

My (relevant) hardware:
  • i7 4790k
  • AMD RX 5700XT
  • MSI Z97M Gaming
What works:
Windows.

"Recovery mode" of currently installed distro (Xubuntu) selected from GRUB bootloader. Main difference between them being:
  • Recovery:
  • Code:linux <tab> /boot/... root=... ro RECOVERY NOMODESET"Normal" also has the additional line:
  • Code:gfxmode $linux_gfx_mode
  • Code:linux <tab> /boot/... root=... ro QUIET SPLASH $VT_HANDOFF
When I boot a live USB.

What I've tried:
  • Installing various versions of Code:amdgpu'
  • Installing Code:intel-microcode
  • Toggling Virtualization in BIOS
As soon as I have installed the distro, and work my way to the first time it's booting on its own (no more bootstick or w/e), it gives a black screen with a blinking cursor after showing me a splash screen giving me the indication it is actually doing something. Recovery mode works and I can login to the ttyNs but I do not get any graphical environment.

Does anyone have any steps that I could take to get Linux working on this system?

EDIT: This happens to me on other distro's as well. Solus stopped working for me when I installed my new GPU too. I assume it's related to my setup, and some weird setting. But I'm waaay out of my depth.
