Gronk fell asleep on the floor during pre-draft visit with Patriots
Before the New England Patriots traded up in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft to select Rob Gronkowski, Bill Belichick and Co. had a unique experience with the Arizona prospect.
"He came up on his pre-draft visit, had a bad visit. We put him in a room, came back, (and) he was asleep on the floor. Didn't make a very good impression," Belichick said Friday during the league's All-Time Team announcement.
Still, New England decided to draft Gronkowski.
"There wasn't much to go on. We traded up for him and we just kind of bet that he would come through, and he certainly did big time," Belichick said.
Gronkowski played nine seasons in New England, amassing 521 receptions, 7,861 yards, and 79 touchdowns in 115 regular-season games. He's the only tight end ever to post 1,000-plus career receiving yards in the postseason.
Gronk retired in March 2019 as a three-time Super Bowl champion and four-time All-Pro.
