Tyson Barrie appears to have avoided a significant injury.

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe didn't offer a timeline for the injured defenseman's recovery, but he did shed some light on the blue-liner's status after Barrie was hurt blocking a shot against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

"No update other than his X-rays that we had were negative, but he just didn't feel comfortable enough to go back," Keefe said postgame. "We'll just see how he is when we get home."

Barrie left the Maple Leafs' 4-1 victory midway through the first period after absorbing a shot from Oilers forward Gaetan Haas.

Barrie tested out his ankle several times during subsequent breaks in the action, but the Leafs later said he wouldn't return.

The 28-year-old has collected 13 points in 33 games this season, his first campaign with the Maple Leafs after the Colorado Avalanche traded him to Toronto on July 1.

The Leafs, who just concluded a four-game road trip, host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.
