Philip Rivers has played all 16 of his NFL campaigns with the Los Angeles Chargers franchise, but he's now facing an uncertain future for the first time.

Rivers, 38, will hit free agency after this season, meaning his time with the team could be coming to an end.

"I mean, they could be (my last games with the Chargers)," Rivers said of the next two weeks, according to Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times. "I don't necessarily expect that it is or I don't necessarily think it's a crazy thought that it will be. I think you just don't know."

Los Angeles has already been eliminated from playoff contention this year and dropped to 5-9 with a 39-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15.

For his part, Rivers hasn't been at his best this year. There have been rumors that the Chargers could begin a rebuild and move on from the veteran, although both sides remain interested in sticking together through 2020, Miller noted.

"It's not solely going to be my decision," the pivot said. "That's where I think that uncertainty lies. We will just kind of have to see. ... I think with that uncertainty it does add some emotion (to the upcoming games)."

Rivers tossed three interceptions in Sunday's defeat to Minnesota, but head coach Anthony Lynn refused to blame his pivot.

"I didn't think the quarterback was the reason why we were turning the football over," Lynn said. "The seven turnovers (as a team), that wasn't on him."

The Bolts have failed to qualify for the postseason in five of their last six seasons.
