Andrew Luck surprisingly retired in August, and the Indianapolis Colts aren't counting on the signal-caller returning for the 2020 season.

"Going into the offseason, we have to proceed as if Andrew is officially retired," owner Jim Irsay said recently, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "So that's how we operate now."

The Colts could pursue a quarterback this offseason, Irsay added.

"From talking to Andrew, we have to take him at face value for what he says," he said. "So (GM) Chris Ballard and I and (head coach) Frank Reich, we have to move forward. And we are with Jacoby and the next draft and thereafter."

Jacoby Brissett has been under center for the AFC South club throughout the 2019 season. In 13 games, the 27-year-old has recorded 2,661 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 62.3% of his throws.

In September, the Colts signed him to a two-year, $30-million contract with $20 million guaranteed.

At 6-8, Indianapolis has already been eliminated from playoff contention in 2019, missing the postseason for the fourth time in the past five campaigns.
