Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder came down from his box to tell Dwayne Haskins not to re-enter Sunday's contest against the New York Giants, the rookie quarterback told reporters after the game.

Haskins was carted from the field with an ankle injury in the third quarter, though he said he was fit to re-enter the game.

"I tried to go back in, he wouldn't let me," he said. "But it's an ankle. I'll be alright."

Asked to clarify who gave him the direction, Haskins responded, "Dan (Snyder) told me not to go in."

Haskins has already undergone X-rays and has no concern about a long-term injury.

"X-ray, nothing's wrong with it. MRI tomorrow," he said.

After Haskins' press conference, the Redskins released a statement from team doctor Robin West, stating the quarterback was not medically cleared to return anyway.

"I evaluated Dwayne following his ankle injury, and after reviewing the X-Rays and conducting a full examination, I did not clear him to return to game action," West said, according to ESPN's John Keim.

Haskins elaborated on the situation on Twitter after he spoke to the media:

I need to clarify something from my press conference. Dr. West advised me that I was done for this game. Dan Snyder who was in the locker room supporting me, told me I've got to listen to the Doctor. Looking forward to getting back healthy for Skins Nation. #HTTR
