Marrone apologizes for Jaguars' season: 'I let so many people down'
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone opened his Tuesday press conference with an apology for the team's disappointing season.
"I truly take responsibility and apologize because it's the holiday time and you want your team to be doing well so people can have some pride and some joy, and we haven't done that," he said. "And that's my job, and I haven't done that."
The Jaguars entered the season with renewed hope after replacing beleaguered quarterback Blake Bortles with former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. They began the campaign with a 2-2 record despite losing Foles to injury during the season opener, but lost seven of their next nine games to plummet out of contention.
Jacksonville's frustrating season included the trade of Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey, benching of Foles once he returned from injury, and firing of senior executive Tom Coughlin.
"I'm truly sorry that I let so many people down, that I couldn't do a better job," Marrone said.
Marrone is widely believed to be on the hot seat, though a report in Week 16 indicated he could be retained for a fourth season.
The 5-10 Jaguars wrap up their schedule Sunday versus the Indianapolis Colts.
