The New Orleans Saints do not intend to sign free-agent wide receiver Antonio Brown after working him out Friday, head coach Sean Payton confirmed.

"We worked (Brown and other receivers) out," Payton told reporters, including ESPN's Adam Schefter. "Gave them physicals. Mainly doing our due diligence on all of those players."

Brown originally posted the workout waiver he was required to sign on his Instagram story.

Payton said the Saints would have required clarity from the NFL regarding the receiver's eligibility for the postseason if they signed him, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

Brown suited up for just one game this season due to a number of off-field incidents.

The 31-year-old signed with the New England Patriots following a high-profile feud with the Oakland Raiders, but he was released shortly thereafter in the wake of multiple allegations of sexual and personal misconduct.

Brown apologized through social media in early December for his recent behavior.

The NFL is still investigating Brown's recent incidents and has made clear he'll likely be placed on the commissioner's exempt list should he sign with a team.
