Slackware-14.2/x86_64: Xsane not finding scanner
by rshepard from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4XCWZ)
I successfully used my Epson flatbed scanner not that long ago but this
morning it cannot find the scanner.
I'm a member of both lp and scanner groups.
Running scanimage -L produces nothing and does not return to the shell
prompt so I kill the process.
sane-find-scanner returns:
could not fetch string descriptor: Pipe error
could not fetch string descriptor: Pipe error
found USB scanner (vendor=0x2e04, product=0xc025) at libusb:001:017
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x011c [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:001:019
# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.
/etc/sane.d/epson.conf hasn't changed.
I've used this scanner with various Slackware versions for years.
There are many threads in this issue on the Web but none has a
recommendation or solution that works here.
What should I check next?
