Report: McCarthy, Lewis meet with Cowboys, Garrett not officially out

The Dallas Cowboys, who still haven't officially moved on from head coach Jason Garrett, arranged meetings for Saturday with ex-Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy and former Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, sources told ESPN's Todd Archer.

McCarthy has already interviewed with the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants, and he's also expected to speak with the Cleveland Browns about their vacancy. The 56-year-old compiled a record of 125-77-2 with the Packers and won Super Bowl XLV at the end of the 2010 campaign.

After leaving Green Bay, McCarthy spent the 2019 campaign trying to reinvent himself in an effort to get back into the league in 2020. He was fired before the end of his 13th season in charge after appearing to grow stale and clash with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Lewis spent the 2019 season as an assistant on Herm Edwards' staff at Arizona State. He was at the helm of the Bengals from 2003-18, registering seven playoff appearances but never winning a postseason game.

The Cowboys have reportedly decided not to retain Garrett in any capacity, but they don't feel obligated to clarify his situation before his contract expires on Jan. 14, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
