The Cleveland Browns hope to hire their new head coach by Friday night or Saturday, sources told Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

Josh McDaniels of the New England Patriots, Kevin Stefanski of the Minnesota Vikings, and Brian Daboll of the Buffalo Bills are the leading candidates for the role, Volin reports.

Cleveland already interviewed the latter two, while the team is meeting with McDaniels on Friday.

The Browns vetted a number of coaches after firing Freddie Kitchens, including Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

McDaniels has been connected with Cleveland since Kitchens' departure, as reports surfaced that he's eager to work with quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The Barberton, Ohio, native also reportedly prefers to work with his own general manager and wouldn't have considered the job if John Dorsey was still with the Browns.

Stefanski and Daboll both led successful offenses in 2019 and helped their respective squads earn postseason berths.
