Call of Duty franchise dominates best selling games of the decade
The NPD Group, a market research company, has released its list of best selling games by revenue in the United States for the past decade. Grand Theft Auto V tops the list, which is no surprise given its multiple releases and editions, purchasable in-game currency, and continued popularity. Skyrim has seen even more releases than GTA V, but is pushed out of the top ten by the overwhelming presence of Call of Duty games. Exactly half of the twenty top games belong to the COD franchise, which would have the top five slots all to itself if it weren't for GTA V.
Two Nintendo exclusives impressively managed to claim spots on the list; Mario Kart 8 coming in at fourteenth and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at nineteenth. Minecraft also deserves recognition as a little game that came out of nowhere and developed into a wild success and possibly the most influential game of the decade.

The NPD Group also ranked the three best selling gaming devices in the U.S. of the past decade. The ranking goes for both revenue and units sold. The PS4 outsold all others, which may seem a bit surprising given the lack of PlayStation exclusives in the best selling games list.
