When closing my Acer aspire E5 - 523 laptop on CentOS.

My laptop goes to sleep when I close it. When I come back to my laptop to get on, its black, but I can still hear my laptop still on. I have to power off my laptop to get back on my account. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
