Should I encrypt and use a VPN on my linux server ?

I have a linux server at my service to host a wordpress website and to store and read my mails.
So, I wonder if encrypting my server and install a VPN on my server could improve the security of my server, my wordpress site and the confidentiality of my mails.
However, I wonder if encrypting my server and installing a VPN could hinder the consultation of my site.
It's all a blur to me...
