Shut off CPU-fan in linux ?
by jopema from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4Z33T)
Hej.
Im looking for tips shutting off cpu fan in a really dirty way, the more dirty the better because a method people dislikes in forums means it is good. Im choosing between cutting the cable to cpu fan or asking here if there is a method. As the cpu fan is of no use the cable will be cut, no point wasting time disconnecting a connector. If I fry my CPU I will be happy, I dont care if I fry my CPU, it will render me a new target for this summers axe-throwing contest so I see it as a benefit if i manage to fry my CPU but it just wont happen. The reason asking here is that it is quicker than spending a day purchasing a new laptop in a store where no one wants to sell me what I want, only what they want you to want, so I always have to tell the sellers to p***off and get out of my way.
Overheating CPU's is extremely exagerated, I have run my quad core cpu with cpu fan shutoff in win 10 for five years now, Im editing videos, presentations, images etc and the only thing happening is cpu-throttling but a cpu will just not fry. The very few times when Im in a nice mood Im putting my slaptop in my basement with cpu fan set to full speed over the night when compiling long videos and all is clear in the morning. Off course I have good backup hygiene, it is windows but it is many years now I was able to break a computer and im the kind of guy forgetting the latop in engine compartment when mapping cars, I even gnarled up the cables in the engine cooling fan once but the computer just wouldnt break.
I want to run linux but I cant, all distributions such as ubuntu, puppy, tcl kali etc spins my cpu fan so I can hear it, a noisy computer will not exist in my home, noisy computers end up as targets for axe-throwing in our summer games. I will not waste time tinker with drivers/settings/modprobe drivers in linux as it is useless, if it dont work out of the box it will never work in linux, it is bad time managament wasting 2-3 days tinkering with linux because it wont work and as for a useless function such as cpu-fan...
...soo..if you had the patience reading to here Im really appreciating tips of the dirtiest method shutting off cpu fan in linux like deleting modules in the core. I have tried the some nice methods published in different forums etc but they wont work, I have wasted enough time in this now, it is only a computer, nothing more.
Thank you for your patience.
