Is there a Linux Application to Graphically Display Network Devices Similar to Samba?

Under file manager there is an icon for "Network". After clicking on that icon, the devices (computers) attached to the network are displayed. See the attached screen-shot. To my knowledge this is made possible through Samba. Out of curiosity, is there a Linux alternative to Samba that displays and allows access to network devices in the same manner as Samba?
