Is it possible for two raspberry Pi's to communicate over ethernet?

Hi,
I have two raspberry Pi's. One is running slackware as a file server, and the other is running Raspbian with Kodi. The reason for this is that I cannot get Kodi running on the slackware machine due to JDK not compiling.
I would like to Kodi to mount a drive from the slackware Pi via ethernet.
Is this possible, or should I try an alternate way to get Kodi on the Slackware Pi?
