Problem with Ocenaudio - can't play any audio file I load

I don't know if I'm just stupid or missing something, but... I really want to use Ocenaudio but I keep running into the same problem - it won't play ANYTHING! All the audio buttons are greyed out (play, stop record, etc) but I'm able to take the side panel in/out and press the info icon. That's all, nothing else. I can mark parts of the audio wave and apply fx, increase/decrease gain, etc but I'm absolutely unable to play anything what so flicking ever! I tried it both as user and root to no avail. Anyone else encountered this problem in Ocenaudio, and how did you solve it?
