Deluge error message permission denied

Hello,
Ever since I downloaded the latest version of Deluge, it hasn't worked anymore. It used to be the best, most user friendly one among them all. Now, I always get an immediate red "error" message, saying "permission denied".
Any ideas? I am running Linux Mint 19.3, 64 bit, version Tricia. But this happened when I still had 19.2 Mate.
This is the current kernel info: Linux 5.3.0-40-generic x86_64
I am NOT computer savvy.
By the way, I also have a MACbook, and deluge works fine on that; I am using the same internet connection for both.
