Abusive Posts

Calling back to a suggestion made a few years ago:

...which I feel is still valid. There are MANY posts in threads that are nothing but plain abuse, that would seem to violate the LQ Rules about sarcasm/insults/personal attacks. Yet the posts remain and in some cases, the moderator response is very gentle ("Please post relevant technical information to questions. Non-technical replies do not belong in threads."), and let the poster continue.
And to choose one serial abuser, their behavior goes back at least six years:

I cannot, for the life of me, see any purpose to keeping such posts in a thread. They don't add to the knowledge or discussion that's taking place, and as noted previously, it's just an insult that people have to see each time the threads are visited. I point out the poster in the above examples, only because they are recent in memory, but there are hundreds more such posts.
Why can such things not be mod-edited out?? And why do such serial abusers allowed to post for so many years without getting banned? Certainly seems to be a double-standard applied in many instances.
