Does 'ls' mean Linear Search?

After some reading I find that the 'ls' command is mightily praised by those authors willing to help newcomers to Linux. The nature of Linux global symbols (e.g., commands) is cryptic, but clear from context. The extraordinary power of a Linear Search algorithm appears to make this connection intuitively plausible in my own feeble mind, and it helps to clarify my view of the command.

Note. A quick check for 'Similar Threads' revealed only five entries, and all of them are circa 2005-2010.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=Kvn06BFU9mk:DK0ebMUX_2I:F7zBnMy latest?i=Kvn06BFU9mk:DK0ebMUX_2I:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=Kvn06BFU9mk:DK0ebMUX_2I:gIN9vFwKvn06BFU9mk
