Intel Security

It was announced that Intel processors and chipsets produced in the last 5 years have an unrepairable security flaw. Is this an issue if I am running Linux? I am running a 12 year old Intel Dual Core Duo Dell laptop. I will try the next Linux Mint that comes out in May. I will stay stay with the 12 year old if the next Mint runs well on it. If not what Intel will not have the security issue? Are there any similar issues with AMD?
