Jones was set to have the biggest cap hit on the roster in 2020 and the Dolphins are freeing up $5.3 million against their salary cap by releasing him, according to Spotrac.
The two-time Pro Bowler still had three seasons left on a five-year, $60-million extension he signed in 2017.
The 32-year-old finished the 2019 campaign on injured reserve due to chest and ankle injuries after playing in just four games.
Miami selected Jones in the fifth round of the 2010 draft. The Georgia product amassed 776 tackles, 21 interceptions, and four touchdowns during 128 games with the franchise.
