Fractal Design’s Era ITX case looks gorgeous
It's easy these days to get a PC case with a big tempered glass panel on the side and then fill it up with blinkenlights. Everything has RGB, and it all syncs up. But sometimes you need a more elegant and subtle solution. Fractal Design is a fan favorite for a reason, and the company's new Era ITX case probably won't change that.
The case is tiny to start with at just 325 x 166 x 310 mm, or just over 12 inches tall and deep and about 6.5 inches wide. Any case like this is going to involve compromises, but Fractal Design sought to minimize those. The case can handle not only SFX power supplies but ATX as well. That's something of a rarity with cases this size.
Continuing with that, the case seems purpose-built to take an AIO cooler, with compatibility for either a single 240-mm radiator or dual 120-mm rads along the top of the case. The case can handle air coolers up to 120-mm high but recommends that you max out at 70 mm if you're using a 3.5-inch HDD in the system. Speaking of drives, there's room for one 3.5-inch HDD or two 2.5-inch drives along the side. The system is compatible only with ITX motherboards, of course. The system also supports graphics cards up to 295-mm long. You're not going to fit any of EVGA's FTW3 cards in there, but that still gets you a long way.
Low-Key Aesthetic
On the outside, the case offers a host of colors and finishing options. The case comes in blue, silver, gray, black, and gold options. The silver and gray options have wood-styled top panels, while the others have tempered glass. Any of these can be swapped with an included steel mesh panel to improve airflow, too. The top panel attaches magnetically and lets the tool-less side panels pop off. The front of the case features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, and a headphone/mic jack.
If you're needing a subtle look for your next case, the Fractal Design Era ITX might be a good option, but you'll need $160 sitting around to afford it.
