Computex postponed to September due to COVID-19

Summer is usually convention season, and many of our favorite shows-E3, San Diego Comic-Con, GamesCom, etc-are set during the height of the heat. This year, though, the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak means that shows are being pushed back, shifted around, and canceled. The latest show to be postponed due to COVID-19 is one of our favorites, Computex 2020.

Initially set to pop off in June, Computex organizers announced this week that they're pushing the show to the end of September. The show will now go off on September 28, and will last only three days instead of the usual five. The show will reportedly narrow its focus, too. The official Computex site lists the show's focus as being on 5G & communications, gaming, start-ups, and smart hardware. In addition to limiting its time and subject matter, the show will occupy only one hall of the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, as opposed to its usual two. Assuming the show even happens, it'll likely be a smaller show.

TechPowerUp notes that this is only the second time Computex has been postponed or rescheduled. The last time was back in 2003, due to the SARS outbreak. Right now, Taiwan is putting all foreign visitors into a 14-day quarantine. Even a September date might not give enough lead time for the virus to die off.

Computex is one of the biggest shows in the PC space, with companies showing off the wares they're working on for the next year over the course of the five-day show. It's not a surprise to see Computex 2020 postponed at this point, but we're hoping things go well enough to let it safely go off in September, even in its toned-down state.
