Simple Scan in Linux Mint 19.3

Hi. I'm new to this forum and I'm having a problem with Simple Scan in Linux Mint 19.3. The problem is that every time I try to open Simple Scan, the computer freezes and I have no other option than to do a force shut-down. I have tried several other scanning programs, all with the same result. Interesting, by creating a new user, Simple Scan works perfectly in the new user. Can anyone throw any light on this matter, as it's a hassle having to switch users each time I have to scan a document and then transfer it back to my usual user. I would appreciate any help in this matter.
