QEMU newbie, audio & data transfer [Slackware Host, Qemu, VMS]
by lawnm0wer from LinuxQuestions.org on (#51D71)
Hello! I've recently managed to get GPU passthrough working via Qemu and VMS. to be quite honest, I've never been happier being at this point and almost ready to shut the windows after so many years, but I've still got a few more hurdles.
Code:Host OS -- Slackware Current (15.0)
Guest OS -- Windows 7
KVM Switch -- Yes, rosewill
Audio hardware -- Syba Sonic USB DAC
-- fiio e10k (unused at the moment, listed for the sake of information)
Guest GPU -- Sapphire RX 480First thing: Audio.
I'd really like a way to actually hear my VM, since I'm doing most of my gaming on it, and sound is important for gaming.
I don't know where to start, most solutions on archwiki and reddit come up using XML, which is a little over-the-top, since VMS is bash scripts. My Problem is, I don't understand how to learn all this config moonspeak when I'm just starting things out.
what are some practical solutions to this audio problem? I really would like to be able to hear both the host and the guest at the same time, but failing that, I'll go solely on the guest as an absolute-last resort.
The only thing I use to listen to my sound is headphones. The motherboard soundcard is not being used at all.
Second thing: Data transferring.
I backed up a couple TB of games on an external hard drive and want to get it onto the guest, should I set up a host-to-guest network, or just pass through my computer's most accessible usb ports to the guest? I tried doing the network but it was giving me headaches trying to figure it out.
Thank you for your help!
